Get to know Dr. Jake Sirlin – the chemist, researcher, and educator behind Delta Tutoring.
Dr. Jake Sirlin is a chemist with a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from UNC Chapel Hill as well as a BS in Chemistry and Economics, and minors in Physics and Math from the University of Miami. Chemistry started as a childhood curiosity that grew into a career, but for him the best part isn't doing the science. It's helping someone else see what makes it click. He has been tutoring math and chemistry since 2014, working with students from high school through graduate school. Dr. Sirlin started Delta Tutoring to make more of those moments happen, the ones where a tricky concept suddenly feels obvious.
Outside of tutoring, Dr. Sirlin works as a chemistry researcher, with projects spanning catalysis, photochemistry, and organometallic synthesis. He shares his home with his partner Willow and their two cats, Ori and Fermi. When he isn't in the lab, he's most often rock climbing or out on a long hike. The rest of his free time goes to building custom computers and mechanical keyboards, picking up new languages, and cooking and baking from scratch.
